MMXVIII: the rebirth

January 5th, 2018 will mark the premiere of ‘MMXVIII’, my rebirth as an artist. It’s been nearly 6 years since I’ve released a single piece of music. Even people who have followed my journey since the beginning have likely forgotten about me (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing). Sometimes things change. Sometimes dreams change. Let’s recap:

February 2012 - I spent 8 days in Nashville writing and recording my second EP, “Consumed”. On my drive home from Nashville I found out I’d won a competition to open for Andy Grammer in Chicago, IL. I parlayed the momentum from the Andy Grammer show into an opportunity to open for Gavin DeGraw. Things are good.

July 2012 - I was introduced to Ryan “Tru” Truax as a videographer who could shoot a professional looking music video for me. He turns out to be pretty cool. He also happens to have a recording studio in his basement. Five years later he’s a groomsman in my wedding.

September 2012 - I get offered a private audition for NBC’s “The Voice”. Millions of viewers. Powerful music industry contacts. It was the platform I thought I needed to take my music career to the next level. It could have been that I didn’t have the talent to advance past the live television audition. It could have been that I don’t make the most compelling character for reality TV producers. Either way, I didn’t get picked for a team and I retreated back to my friends and family in Minneapolis, MN. For months (until the auditions aired on TV) I was prohibited by contract to reveal the results of my audition. The last audition episode ended and my performance was never aired on TV. It was like I had never even been there. Reality set in. I felt as if I had let every single one of my fans down. Hollywood had chewed me up and spit me out. Jaded. I was tired of the grind. I was tired of the insecurity. I was tired of being broke, I took a job in real estate and started to settle into a “normal life”. I met the woman of my dreams and followed her to Denver, CO.

What I wasn’t tired of was creating music.

January 5th, 2018 - the first release of MMXVIII (2018). A collection of 26 songs released every other Friday for an entire year. These songs represent a journey. Highs and lows. Truth and lies. Winding roads. The combination of Tru’s chops as a hip-hop/electronica producer to compliment my blues rock background has been a rewarding mash-up of talent. Back and forth from Denver to Minneapolis, we’ve collectively spent thousands of hours on this project over the last 3+ years and we’ve had so much damn fun doing it. I hope you enjoy this ride as much as we will.
